Repairing a Chip on Your YDL Stone Surface

YDL Stone surfaces are designed to be strong, durable, and long-lasting. While our materials are highly resistant to daily wear, they are not completely chip-proof. On rare occasions, chips may occur due to accidental impact with heavy or sharp objects.

Can a Chip Be Repaired?

Yes — in most cases, chips on YDL Stone Mineral surfaces can be repaired. If your benchtop has been damaged after installation, we recommend contacting a qualified stonemason or repair specialist for an assessment and quote. Please note that chips caused by external impact are not covered under warranty.

How to Prevent Chips from Occurring

A few small design and usage habits can go a long way in keeping your benchtop in top condition:

  • Edge Profiles Matter: We always recommend using edge profiles with a minimum radius of 3–4mm. Rounded edges offer better resistance against chipping compared to sharp, square finishes.
  • Sink Cutouts: If your benchtop includes an undermount sink, we suggest a minimum 6mm radius on the inner edges of the cutout. This helps absorb impact and reduce the risk of chipping near the sink.
  • Mind the Drawers and Cabinets : Ensure drawers, cabinet doors, and dishwasher panels open and close smoothly without bumping into your stone surface.
  • Be Gentle with Heavy Items: Avoid dropping heavy pots, pans, or appliances directly onto the benchtop. When working with weighty cookware, consider placing a chopping board or silicone mat underneath for extra protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How do I clean my YDL Stone benchtop?

YDL Stone is designed to offer high performance with very little maintenance to keep the surface looking like new. For every day, routine cleaning of YDL Stone we recommend wiping your bench top with warm soapy water (a pH neutral household liquid detergent, or a mild detergent) and a damp cloth.

Q2: Can I stand on my YDL Stone benchtop?

No, you can’t. Always refrain from placing excessive weight on your YDL Stone bench top. Excessive weight can also have an impact on the underlying cabinet structure.

Q3: How durable is my YDL Stone ?

Although YDL Stone has high heat resistance to tolerate brief exposures to moderately hot temperatures, excessive prolonged direct contact with, or radiated heat may result in damage or discoloration to your YDL Stone due to thermal shock. Like all surface materials YDL Stone should be treated with care.

Q4: What does heat resistant mean?

YDL Stone is heat resistant and is not affected by temperatures lower than 100°C (212°F). However, like all stone material, YDL Stone can be damaged by sudden and rapid temperature changes. Therefore, we do not recommend placing any hot kitchen wares (hot oven trays, pans, hot pots, electric frying pans etc.) directly from the hotplate or out of the oven onto the surface of YDL Stone. We always recommend the use of a hot pad or trivet to place hot items on.

Q5: What can I do with my food preparation on my YDL Stone benchtop?

YDL Stone always recommend cutting your food on an appropriate chopping board and never directly on the YDL Stone surface to avoid damaging kitchen knives or the surface of your bench top.
