Stone Care & Maintenance
Lithostone products are a beautiful addition to your home or commercial application and we want to put your mind at ease on caring for them. Find our care and maintenance guide and warranty information here.
Lithostone stone products have outstanding properties to ensure ease of maintenance and longevity. Whilst many worry about keeping the stone in perfect condition, it requires a simple and practical process to keep it at its best.
Everyday Cleaning
For everyday routine cleaning of Lithostone, simply wipe the surface over with water and a soft cloth.
At the end of each day apply methylated spirits either directly on or in a spray bottle and wipe clean with a microfibre cloth to achieve the optimal surface lustre. The use of methylated sprits daily will reduce the amount of times that a deep base clean will be required.
Deep Base Clean
A deep base clean is required every so often during the year to remove any residues that have built up over time, such as calcium water deposits and mineral salts from the general cleaners and dishwashing liquids that may come into contact with the surface.
A deep base clean is achieved by simply using a non-scratch sponge and a small amount of Lithostone cream cleanser, formulated specifically for engineered and stone surfaces to gently clean whilst protecting the stone. Mix this cleanser with water to create a foamy solution to gently wipe over the surface in a circular motion covering the whole area. Let it sit for up to five minutes and then rinse off thoroughly with fresh water and a clean microfibre cloth. Finally using a clean cloth, buff dry the surface.
Food Preparation
To avoid damaging your Lithostone it is recommended that cutting and food preparation are not done directly on the stone surface. As the hardness of the surface may blunt knives or even damage the stone, we recommend using an appropriate timber cutting board for food preparation.
Stain Resistance
Lithostone is virtually non-porous and will withstand exposure to strongly coloured substances such as tea, soda, wine and other highly pigmented foods and liquids. Where stains or discolourations do occur, follow the everyday cleaning advice with Lithostone cream cleanser, avoiding scrubbing or abrasive cleaners.
Scratch Resistance
Lithostone is scratch resistant but like all surfaces, it is not 100% scratch-proof. Scratches on darker surfaces may be more noticeable than on lighter colours.
Heat Resistance
Lithostone will tolerate brief exposures to moderately hot temperatures, however, prolonged direct contact with or radiated heat from very hot pots may cause thermal shock, discolouration and/or damage. Therefore we recommend always placing hot pots, pans, electric frying pans and oven trays directly from the hotplate or out of the oven onto a cutting board or stove and not onto the Lithostone surface.
Polishing or Sealing
As Lithostone V Surfaces and Compac is virtually non-porous it will keep its lustrous gloss and ultra-smooth surface without polishing and it never needs sealing.
Maintenance
Lithostone is tough but is not indestructible. As with any surface, it can be permanently damaged by exposure to strong chemicals and solvents that undermine its physical properties.
Never use bleach on or in close proximity to Lithostone surfaces.
Do not use products that contain trichlotherane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers.
Avoid any highly aggressive cleaning agents such as oven cleaner that can have high alkaline/ph levels. Should the surface be accidentally exposed to any of these damaging products, rinse immediately with water to neutralise the effect.
Avoid high-impact damage, particularly to edges or excessive weight being placed on the surface.
Do use warm soapy water and a soft cloth to clean. Follow with Lithostone cream cleanser for further cleaning if required.
Simply protect your stone surface from sharp and hot objects by using a cutting board as the work surface for easy maintenance of Lithostone surfaces.
